This is the second part of tips on how to prevent stretch marks. The first concerned a couple of patents, which I encountered for maternity braces. However I could find no evidence of this particular brace actually in production, although there are others, perhaps it was adapted along the way, who knows? What I do know though is that my daughter and her “exercise during pregnancy” group were extremely interested in this patent that was filed in October 2000 and gave it great consideration in their discussions on how to prevent stretch marks.
Whilst trying to find out how to prevent stretch marks, I encountered another patent, which was filed in March 1997. This is a way to prevent stretch marks during pregnancy by diagonally taping a polyurethane sheet backed with adhesive over the stomach area for most of the pregnancy period. The theory behind this development seems to be preventing the stretch marks, which are caused because of skin tension. Putting all this aside lets look at what you can do in the here and now to prevent stretch marks so you won’t have to think about laser surgery for stretch marks later. Firstly it is important during your pregnancy to eat balanced healthy diet to keep your weight gain within the suggested range of twenty to twenty five pounds. First-rate nutrition is not only important to the developing baby but also is a factor in the health and strength of your largest organ in your body, the skin. Also a steady weight gain allows your skin to stretch at a steady rate, so it is less likely that stretch marks will form. If you massage the areas of existing stretch marks or areas where you wish to prevent stretch marks, this will increase circulation which can be beneficial.
During pregnancy, keep the skin substantially and effectively moisturized. Try out one of the many stretch mark or skin care products and keep to the instructions. These are specially formulated to prevent stretch marks and will help keep your skin elastic and supple. Most contain vitamins, which additionally act as a skin food and enhance the production of collagen and support the dermis. This protects the skin despite the vast stretching.
