Now cellulite and stretch marks have many similarities and are both caused by damage to the dermis. It’s just that stretch marks are a more acute version to specific areas of the body, which has been stretched as in pregnancy. The dermis is the middle layer of the skin that makes it elastic. If you use the analogy of an elastic band, when this is stretched over time it looses its elasticity and becomes fragile. This is why you are probably now reading this article on how to reduce stretch marks, your skin has stretched over time, possibly because of pregnancy and parts of your connective tissue has become brittle and damaged and lacking its elastic properties. These areas then become ridged in texture and visible as stretch marks.

According to what the natural color of your skin is the raised areas of stretch marks show up either pink or reddish to dark brown and may turn purple later. This is what really sends you crazy to find a way to reduce stretch marks. It’s possible that this color is linked to blood vessels being damaged with the stretching of the skin. Over time the stretch marks will become lighter and even out. Mature stretch marks eventually, due to lack of pigment turn white or translucent.
